You want to assist your child by getting them a swim vest. But what size does your child actually need? Age and weight both play an important role in finding the right fit, and it’s essential to choose a vest that sits snugly without restricting movement. At Swim Essentials, we offer a range of sizes designed to grow with your child from their first dip in the water to becoming little swimmers on their own. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the different sizes based on age, so you can find the perfect swim vest and enjoy carefree, happy moments in and around the water together.
Why choosing the right Swim Vest size matters
For safety purposes, you obviously want to have the right size swim vest for your kid. A vest that’s too big can ride up, shift around, or even slip off, offering little to no support. On the other hand, a vest that’s too small may feel tight, restrict movement, and make your child uncomfortable while swimming or playing.
At Swim Essentials, all of our swim vests are thoughtfully designed to offer the perfect balance between safety, freedom of movement, and comfort. But to get the full benefit, it’s important to choose the correct size. That’s why we offer our vests in three sizes, each based on both age and weight, to ensure the best possible fit for every little swimmer.
Swim Vest size guide by age
Choosing the right size swim vest becomes much easier when you know what to look for. At Swim Essentials, we’ve created a simple size guide based on your child’s age and approximate weight, so you can quickly find the vest that fits just right.
For 1-year-olds
We recommend the 1–2 year swim vest, specifically designed for children weighing around 11 kg. This vest offers extra comfort and gentle support, making it ideal for your little one’s very first water experiences. It helps them feel secure while giving them enough freedom to splash and play.
For 2-year-olds
The best choice is the 2–3 year swim vest, perfect for toddlers weighing around 15 kg. This version provides more buoyancy and support than the 1–2 size, making it great for toddlers who are more active in the water and starting to move with more confidence.
For 3-year-olds
At this stage, it really depends on your child’s height and weight. Smaller 3-year-olds may still be comfortable in the 2–3 year swim vest, while others, especially those with a larger build or nearing age 4, will benefit from the 3–6 year swim vest. Both options provide excellent support, so choose the one that fits snugly without being too tight. With the adjustable strap choosing the 3-6 year swim vest will probably work best, and you can use it longer as the child ages.
For 4 to 6-year-olds
The 3–6 year swim vest is the perfect match for growing kids who are becoming more independent in the water. It offers balanced floatation, making it easier for them to practise swim movements while staying safe and supported. It’s ideal for swimming lessons, pool play, and summer holidays alike.
Tips for choosing the right Swim Vest
When selecting a swim vest for your child, it’s important to remember that every child grows differently, so don’t rely on age alone. Always check your child’s weight as well as their age to ensure you’re picking the right size. A properly fitting swim vest should sit snugly around the chest without riding up when your child moves or is in the water.
